Our Story
GC House began
on the footy field.
James Martell first connected with Wayne while coaching the Currumbin Eagles Under 13s side. What started as a coaching relationship quickly grew into a strong bond.
Through this connection, James saw firsthand the challenges Wayne and other Indigenous boys in the team faced in finding stable accommodation while trying to attend school on the Gold Coast.
Over time, James and Emily built trusted relationships with the families. They listened to the real challenges young people and their communities face when trying to access secondary education away from home, distance, lack of safe housing, limited support, and disconnection from community and culture.
These conversations made the need clear.
That’s why GC House was established — to provide more than just a place to stay.
GC House offers a safe, structured and culturally respectful home where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people can live, learn and build a future while completing their education.
